I was born in 61 and I can't believe how much has changed since I was a kid. When we were kids we made our own entertainment. We had no videos, computers, cell phones, gaming machines etc. Our parents were not afraid to let us go out and play because there didn't seem to be as many pervs and creeps around back then. There didn't seem to be an issue with overweight kids either because we were all out riding bikes and playing tag. There weren't as many cars around either. Women didn't drive much where I lived so families usually only had one car per household, not 2 in the garage, 2 in the driveway and 3 in the street like it is around here now! Also women seemed to stay home and look after the kids while the men worked. Things have changed a lot since I was a kid.

I was born in 1974, so I remember some of it.

Computers were not in everyone's homes until the early 90s, I think. I've been online since 1990 and I was one of the first ones around. I remember being in 4th grade and the new rage was computer classes. That was 1984.

Video games - you had Atari 2600 and then Colecovision. The graphics were sucky and the games themselves were slow.

Cable TV. Wow. THAT was a HUGE deal. I remember being beside myself that I could watch Duran Duran on Mtv! We had 32 channels. WOWIE!!! That was 1985 or 1986. (I now have 500+ channels)

CDs didn't exist. You went into RECORD stores and bought either full-length albums or 45s of singles. Cassettes got more and more popular in the 80s -like 1984 or so. I remember the first CD I ever got. It was Extreme's "Pornograffiti" - that was 1991.

I was born in 1971 - You missed the best years!! Being raised in the 70's and especially the 80's was the best. Now days you guys are on the computer with one hand typing a text message on your phone with another and listening to your ipod at the same time. Listen to the song by Mark Wills "Nineteen Someting" - It explains it all. I remember what a big deal it was to get a satalite dish (one of the BIG ones) and watching MTV when it came on the very first time. - back then it was ALL videos. I remember when microwaves first came out and how big they were. I also remember a time when you had to actually GET UP to change the channel on the TV. - well the 3 channels you had. Kids actually went outside to play and stayed out until they heard their mom call from down the street. Families ate dinner together. And lets not even get started on the music. - the 80's were the best!!!! - Thanks for that trip down memory lane!

I'm not that old but older than you. I never had a computer or computer games. We would go out to play every morning before the sun came up and your a** better be back on your front porch before the street lights came on or you were in some deep shi*
You ate what your mother cooked and never complained. I never seen a McDonald's until I was 18 years old. You went to church every single Sunday morning, evening and Wednesday night. You only watched major league baseball on tv with your dad and sometimes we got to watch Gilligan's Island if dad was busy in the garage. There were no worries about drugs and drinking, it just was not around. The only worries we had were who we were going to play with the next day. A box of cereal cost .99 cents and life was good. Friends were real friends and I to this day still have them in my life. I often think of these things as I raise my 14 year old who needs 150.00 Nike shoes, 300.00 baseball bats and it amazes me the things kids take for granted these days. Wish you could have been there :)

Computer - I got my first computer when I was in college in 1985. My handwriting was always illegible so I was thrilled to use the computer to write my reports. I was also thrilled to be able to cut & paste & edit so easily.

Internet - I wasn't on-line at home until a few years ago. I love the instant access to information. I see something interesting I want to get more info on & I jump on the computer to get it, instead of having to wait till I went to the library. (Did you know Alan Hale (the Skipper on Gilligan's Island) had a father who was also an actor. They look & sound just alike.)

Video games - I vividly remember getting on my bike & going to the video arcade. My favorite game was centapede. We had a super simple home game you could attach to your TV. You could drive this little tank around obsticles & shoot at another tank. Not much better than "pong" My cell phone came with more complex games.

cell phones - I used to think cell phones were just luxeries for rich folk. Now I'm kind of shocked when I meet someone under 60 who doesn't have a cell phone.

But basically, life is more the same than different. Guys and girls still go out on dates, whether set up by text-messages, IMs or old-fashioned phone calls.

You have no idea, cell phones, who'd a thunk it. We didn't even have cordless phones, hell phones were black and mounted on the wall when I was a kid. We got our first color TV when I was about 10. And you sure change ages alot cuz the other day you were like 28 in h.s. and yesterday you were in college and now you're 18. I'm kinda confused. Are you schizo or just forgetful.

gas was 27 cents a gallon at one time I recall. Video game was PONG. man we had to walk 10 miles to school, up hill BOTH ways. blah blah blah

i was born in 1964..we didnt have computers like we do now but mostly government offices had them.they started putting computers in schools around 1976.am not sure when the public could buy them but back then they didnt even have cable tv.the first video game players that came out was atari.in the 70s we had records n 8 track tapes.about the early 80s they came out with the cassette tapes.i can remember my brothers have 8 track tape players in their cars..lol.by the time i was old enough to drive we had cassette players.one of the first video games was pac-man then they came out with ms pac-man.i can remember gas being 75 cents a gallon back in the 70s.one thing i do remember well is when the white folk had their own school n the black folk had their own..it was in the middle 70s before i ever went to school with other ppl of other cultures.it was the most horrifying day of my life.i was jumped by 4 girls on the first day of school n i beat 3 of them n the other one took off running.i earned respect that day n ever since then noboby has ever tried to fight with me again..i wasnt predjudice to begin with but i wasnt gonna let them beat me cause of the color of my skin.we had not alot of crime n there was drug use but not like todays drugs.the police was nicer n easier to get along with back then..today they think everyone is a criminal.i know a whole lot more but im tired now.

You went outside to play and the neighborhood was your playground - other children's parents yelled at you just like yours did. You did not have toys - you played in the dirt with twigs and leaves. At nite you would catch lighting bugs and the one you catched the most would win - then you would let them all go and play again. You were safe walking in your neighborhood at nite without an adult or police to accompany you. You could buy: gum - 3 slices for a penny,
coke cola for 25 cents, hamburgers 3 for a dollar, hotdogs 5 for a dollar, we were not allow to spend sunny days in door unless you were REALLY sick or had surgery or dead. We visited family every Sunday after lunch - but first you HAD to go to church - morning and nite.
We dressed to go to church and then come home and put play clothes on. We HAD to say yes ma or no ma or yes sir or no sir. We were not allow to sass anyone including other adults. We knew all our neighbors by names. This is just a few of the things from my childhood!@

I was born 84 so I can not say. But I do believe from listening to mamma and pappa that many people then spent great time outdoors playing sports and going on the beach! Probably were less coach potatoes back then, aye?

Well I was born in 1983 so I've pretty much experienced the same luxuries you have. I've heard the 70s were great though. Not really any technology/electronic led eras before ours but nowadays technology rules just about everything.
