My six month old son (5 months; 3 weeks) hasn't rolled over. Well, I should say not since he was four weeks old. Just now, while playing, he managed to lift himself OVER the bobby (propped him while sitting) and then manuevered himself behind the boppy.

How can he do this and not roll over yet?

He doesn't like his belly, but we have at least 30 minutes a day of belly time and it's getting better. When he sits he and lunges forward to grab something and falls to his belly he'll stay there and play. He'll even teeter totter on his side...but no roll.

Why do you think he's not rolling over yet?

Although the stages that babies go through are given in books as a guide to their development, not all babies go through all of the stages. For example quite a few babies don't crawl at all. Not rolling over is not abnormal! Babies learn most things by copying, and I bet you don't roll over around the living room when you want to get something. If he's found a better, quicker or more efficient way of getting somewhere he'll do it!

He's not rolling over because he doesn't want to. My son is now 6 months 2 weeks old. He rolled over once around 4 months and then once again around 5 months. At his 6 month check up I told the doctor I was worried. He said babies do what they want when they want to do it. Sure enough about a week ago he started rolling all over the place.

He doesn't like tummy time either but loves to "sit". He's now even showing signs of wanting to pull up and loves to be on his feet. I truly don't think he'll crawl because he just doesn't like that position. Don't sweat it!!! I know it's hard to hear but your child will do things in his own time.

The truth is baby's have their own calendar. Some do one thing before anybody and other's are the last to try new things. Belly time is good. GREAT EXERCISE. But try putting a favorite toy just out of reach so he has to roll to get it. Many babies will roll before they crawl but not always. We are all unique. Don't think you have to compare your baby to other boys his age. He will roll when he's ready. You can make a game of it and roll him making funny noises as you push him over from side to side. Make it a happy game. He'll catch on and roll all over in no time. My guess is he'll roll over and take off crawling at the same time.

Seems like he's found other ways to get to what he wants / where he wants to go. I've known some infants that don't even crawl on hands and knees but do a "combat crawl" with arms and leg wiggles. If your pediatrician isn't concerned about the lack of rolling over then I'd say things are fine. From what you said, your son seems to balance okay ( with boppy ), but I bet the more tummy time you work on with him will have him rolling in no time. My son hated being on his belly too.

talk to your pediatrician about it. if you want, you can hold his fave toy in front of him while he is on his back. put the toy in the upper right or left side so he will be encourage to roll over. if he wont, gently hold his left shoulder and initiate rolling over to the right and in that position, play with his fave toy for 2 min. and increase intervals and do the same to the other side. hope this helps. i have a seven month old baby too.

For the same reason some kids don't crawl and go straight to walking. They just don't. He might do it in time, or he might go straight to sitting up. Either way its fine. Don't pressure him to much. He may only be 6 months, but he can get a complex too! LOL

All babies learn at a different pace. This doesnt mean he isnt as smart as other babies his age. He may just not feel like rolling over yet. Give it time it'll happen soon

He may not roll over yet cause he's just not ready. If you have asked your Dr. and he isn't concerned....then he will....my 15 mn. old son didn't do much at first he had health problems, then it seemed he did it all at once..so be patient he'll catch up

One thing you might want to check is for anemia ( thats what I was told) its the iron levels inthe blood. Low levels can cause slow muscle developemnt.
They just prick the finger for a drop. Usually they check by 8 months. If it comes back okay then I wouldnt worry.

Hi

He sounds like he's doing brilliantly!

Neither of my son's rolled that early - in fact I thought of it as a good thing - at least they were always where I left them!

In fact it doesn't matter if he never rolls!
