Are you asking if laughter is the result of suppressed stuff coming out? I think laughter has different sources. Some is nervous tension, expressed as laughing. Some people laugh at another almost to just make someone think what they say is funny. Kind of a filler. Other laughter is real, spontaneous, the humor is really there. Laughter is a release of some sort. Comes out of some people kind of fakish and others honestly.

According to Wikipedia Laughter is an outward expression of amusement. It may ensue (as a physiological reaction) from jokes, tickling and others. Inhaling nitrous oxide can also induce laughter; Other drugs, such as cannabis, can also induce episodes of strong laughter. At rare times, pain can sometimes be used to create laughter, though not necessarily with sadistic or masochistic reasoning. Only human laugh. Laughter is a part of human behavior regulated by the brain. It helps humans clarify their intentions in social interaction and provides an emotional context to our conversations. Laughter is used as a signal for being part of a group — it signals acceptance and positive interactions. Laughter is sometimes contagious and the laughter of one person can itself provoke laughter from others.

It definitely can be. Some humor is a way to express anger. Especially sarcastic and hurtful humor.
There is definitely a healthy laughter and an unhealthy laughter. The healthy kind is good for the soul.
