We recently fertilized our field and a heavy rain fell afterwards. What effect will the runoff of water have?

This is to help me in my class work in 6th grade. Our pond had a lot of extra water after this rain. I wonder if the fertilizer dad used has entered the water and if it has what effect it will have on the pond and its inhabitants?

The chemical compisition of most fertilizers serves as nutrients for most algae and with the runoff, it blooms in a rapid manner covering almost an entire pond of the area where the fertilizer runoff ends. As a consequence, fishes and other organisms living in the water starts dying due to limited oxygen underwater. The rapid algal bloom limits the dissolved oxygen in the water hence limiting the supply of oxygen available to the organisms living underwater.
