Very good question! I'm also intrigued by this as I'm a Lancashire lass and find him hilarious, yet don't understand how other regions find his humour as funny as people who know the accent, for some of his stand up sketches. I now live in Newcastle and loads of Geordie's love him, i know you asked for southerners i only know 2, (and they live in the North East) and they love him. He does have some hilarious sketches that every one can relate to, IE Walk to the dance floor strut, dad dancing etc. But I'm sure those who are from the North West region find it that bit more funny. As for Phoenix Nights I love it but can understand why people don't - get it. Max and Paddy Fantastic.

From the south... I served with northerners, southerners, westerners, Californians (sure, distinctive), and mids....there is not any hate, yet lack of awareness is in severe furnish. after a at the same time as our adjustments filled the voids in our lives we did no longer understand existed, and from the variety we grew to become stable via fact somebody continually had a thank you to do something. Spics, Jews, Wops, Yanks, reds, beaners, alks, yolks, slews, huskers, wanks, butters, muds, coffees, and so on...once you fairly understand your neighbor then they're greater advantageous than what you have been advised and lied to approximately. SO, bypass meet your neighbor. In a city you may stroll feet and interior the agricultural a mile yet make the area propose some thing.

Does West Midlands count as being a southerner? I moved up North about 8 years and didn't find him funny at all at first. Now am up in Lancashire I find him absolutely hilarious.

Southerners don't understand the Northern language.
They prefer Eastenders instead - after all it is a comedy.

Never mind Southerners. I am a Scot, I thought Phoenix Nights was funny BUT having seen his stand up routine on DVD it totally left me cold. Really weird because my (Mancunian and Teeside) colleagues were falling off their chairs laughing at him.
It's very "regional " humour.

No, people from the south would find it hard to laugh at anything not to to come out of Mike Read or Jim Davidson's mouth.
