Tear a small sheet of paper into three pieces, and then write down the three things that mean the most to you in all the world, in all your life on the three pieces of paper, one thing for each piece. Next, fold the pieces as small as you can with the writing on the inside, and put them in a dish. Shake well, and have your best friend pick one out for you at random ...

On that piece will be what you should write "this song" about :)

For more inspiration, write what's on the chosen paper across the top of a new page, and then brainstorm ... That is, list as many words as you can as fast as you can that come to mind when you read the chosen word or phrase.

Good luck!!

Hello, I am a singer as well and sometimes have the same problem. The first step is deciding how you feel at the time. The next step is picking your topic. So if you are happy, you may write about something like love or something that would happen that would bring joy to your life. The next thing is to write the song. I dont mean just writing the words down on the paper. I mean looking into yourself and useing words and phrases that come strait from your heart. After you have it all written out read it a couple times and make any changes in wording or flow that you dont like. Then add the tones and sounds to go with the words. Shape the music arround the words themselves. No one can tell you how to write your songs or what to write about. Only you can decide. Look for inspiration in yourself. Music is self expression. Look inside you to find the song.

Waiting on a street corner for the sign to flash over to "Walk". You could create a metaphor about being afraid to persue a relationship and call the song, "Walk, Don't Walk"

How bout, "Leaving on a Jet Plane". That could be a hit. Oh, that's been done? How bout a new song for "Happy Birthday". The one we always sing is old and tired. A new one, if it catches on could make you world famous.
