My daughter is leaving for college next week and getting roid of her car. It does need a new exhaust, but we didn't want to put money into a car we're getting rid of. So she gets pulled over and the cop tells her that she has to fix it, get it inspected and show him proof of all of this - even though she told him that she was selling it next week, he told her that if she didn't comply, she'd get a ticket.

In most states, if you are going to sell a car, it has to meet inspection requirements. I can understand that you dont want to put money into something that you are going to sell, but in this case it is something that is required to be in good working order. The police had to see or hear something that was not in compliance with the law and what it sounds to me like is that he was nice enough basically gave her a warning to get it fixed or get a ticket. My question to you is ...........What is worth more to you, spending a one time amount to fix the car, or have your daughter get a ticket which will more likely result in a fine, court cost (most states charge court costs now even if you dont walk into a courtroom) and a mark on her driving record or depending on your state laws and your insurance regulations, have increased insurance premiums because of driving a car with faulty equipment. I think I would just get it fixed and save the pending headaches. Im sorry if that isnt what you want to hear, but it is the truth. My daughter would be more important to me rather than trying to hang on to those dollars to avoid the repair. You have a decision to make, please..........make the wise one.
