If you are a down-to-earth sweetheart to everyone (especially girls), I don't know the answer. I don't know why the color of your skin has anything to do with your personality. Just act normal and respectable and prove all those bitches wrong!

Great question dude. I'm light skinned myself. From what I experienced, people, especially in black culture, seem to think that light skinned black guys are weak, effeminate, not manly, jail bate, arrogant or stupid before they even meet or talk with you. I had to always fight the bigger black guys because they always wanted to start some trouble with me just for being light skinned, and I'm 5'6" short for a black guy, which made it worse. I used to think that I should hate myself for being light skinned. But after I moved to Houston TX, and was around different types of girls, I got so much respect and they usually found me attractive. Dating was much easier. It all depends on the crowd, some girls dig light skinned guys, some girls don't, but once you find which ones do, it's great. So I know what you mean all too well man.

I don't think anything is wrong with being a light skinned black person. Society has kinda put light skinned blacks against dark skinned blacks and vice versa. Your black so I don't understand why other blacks make a big deal about a light skinned black person.

In my opinion most black guys, all skin shades tend to be arrogant. So if your light skinned sweetheart don't worry about anything, do your thing, live your life and don't worry about what others say. Its all envy and jealousy they want your skin color.

Who cares what other people think?!? Growing up, my brothers and I got the same rap because all 3 of us are light skinned with green eyes and one of my brothers has blonde hair. Darker skinned blacks called him 'whitey' and I fought all the time over people picking on us since I am the oldest. At first I used to think I had to be extra nice to prove that light skinned people are nice people and not stuck up. My mother (who is also light skinned) said this, "Some black people will always have issues that stem from slavery. Some will not like you for your looks or call you names. You don't have to kiss anyone's butt to prove you are nice. They'll talk about you anyway, so just be yourself." We are all well into adulthood (I'm in my 30's) and you know what? She was 100% correct. Do you...and whoever doesn't like you...to hell with 'em!

Being a light skinned as they say female , I have encountered that same stereotype . It is sad that our culture has been so stigmatized from slavery days that we as a people cant move beyond the light skin dark skin stereotype . If we must judge which we shouldn't we need to look at the person's character , instead of determining how a person is going to act because of their skin tone .

It's just a stereotype from back in the day when light complected men seemed to be more popular with women. Supposedly, light skin, or HIGH YELLA FOLKS think they're cute. (Just another phase in the race to fame). FYI, during the time of slavery, most light complected Negroes worked in the slave owners home and had the more respectable jobs???? As opposed to the darker slaves that were confined to more difficult work in the fields.

Well, I have met quite a few light ones that had a superiority complex. They even preferred light-skinned women. I have yet to meet one that isn't arrogant. I know he's out there though.

in basic terms as an aside and to coach how meaningless colour certainly is....if an African-American is going to Africa(regardless of the floor tone) the guy would be seen white. they do no longer look on the floor colour they look on the commencing place of a individual. while you're a westerner, you're white. Africans look lots greater cultured than we provide them credit for being IMO. colour would not count!

Isn't it great how people will judge you negatively before they even know you, based on the colour of your skin. Yes it sucks, but dark skinned black men are still treated worse.

That's totally racist. What's attitude got to do with skin colour. Prove 'em wong by being the least arrogant guy in town ;-)
