Any time anyone mentions Jimi it's always his guitar playing they praise. He was a great guitarist but his lyrics are often overlooked, in my opinion his lyrics are as good (maybe better) than Lennon/McCartney

they are EASILY better. lennon is comparable but jimi has him licked. this is just my opinion of course(this is a fairly subjective topic).

one of my personal favorites. it is so simple on the surface yet so deep and abstract. the strangest thing is jimi always hated his voice and lyrics and friends and band mates had to convince him to perform them.

Jimi was good, i reckon he is over rated as a guitarist by todays standards although he was groundbreaking at the time. He could write a mean lyric though. My personal favourite is Little Wing. I have never been too into Lennon/McCartney but i do love the song Julia.

I don't know anyone who disputes Jimi's lyrical talents, but the man is just more well known for his riffs. I mean, if Slash started writing lyrics to songs and they were really good then he wouldn't suddenly be known more for that.

I agree, Hendrix had some really excellent lyrics. Drug influenced or not, the lyrics to Spanish Castle Magic and so many others are just great.

And I think Lennon/McCartney are seriously overrated in nearly all musical aspects

lennon? no.. mccartney.. yea probably.. but the thing was that jimi died so young, and didn't get into the mainstream "next gen" so i mean, lennon and mccartney are just imfamous, how many times have you heard the beatles are the greatest band of all time?

yes,it is partially true, but it so because when JIMI wrote he wrote in more abstract thoughts,he wasn't literal like the beatles.with JIMI you have to get into his head or as i've heard it said "YOU HAVE TO RISE TO A SPIRITUAL LEVEL TO TRULY HEAR,SEE & UNDERSTAND JIMI"!

Yeah his lyrics aren't too bad but his guitar skills were just so amazing it overshadowed his lyrics. So, hes definitely underrated when it comes to lyrics.

Definitely under-rated. Definitely NOT as good as Lennon and that wanker Sir Paul.
