Write the equation of the 3 lines between the 3 points in the slope intercept form of y = mx + b
for lines AB, BC, and AC.
Identify the slopes of the 3 lines and if any 2 of the 3 slopes are negative reciprocals of each other, you have a right triangle.
For instance y = -2x +2 and y = 1/2x -1 have slopes that are negative reciprocals, -2 and 1/2.
If they are not right angles check if it is an isoceles triangle or equilateral triangle. Isoceles triangles have no right angles, but the length of two of the lines are the same. Equilateral triangles have all three lengths the same. Use the distance formula between 2 points.
A scalene triangle is a triangle where no two sides are equal in length.
It's a matter of deduction.

There are a few ways that you can try this...
1.) Grab some graph paper and plot the points, then you can measure the angles and the lengths of the sides to see if it's scalene, isosceles, or equilateral (or if you're talking about angles - acute, obtuse, or equiangular)
2.) If you've learned about the distance formula, you can use that to find the distance between the points
distance = sqrt ( (x1 - x2)^2 + (y1 - y2)^2 )

It is an obtuse triangle.
Find the length of each side, using the distance formula (sqrt means square root):
AB=sqrt[(5-4)^2+(5-8)^2] = sqrt[10]
BC=sqrt[(9-5)^2+(5-5)^2] = sqrt[16]
AC=sqrt[(9-4)^2+(5-8)^2] = sqrt[34]
For a right triangle, AB^2 + BC^2 = AC^2 (since AC is the longest)
However, AB^2 + BC^2 = 10+16 = 26, which is less than 34
If it was a right triangle, AC = sqrt[26] , but AC is actually larger than that, so it's an obtuse triangle.

You actually have to draw the triangle on a grid. Then figure out the length of each side. If 2 sides have the same length, then it's isosceles triangle, if all three sides have the same length, then it's an equilateral triangle.

Lets see.. without giving hte answer away, the simple way to do this is to plot the points on a graph (either with graph paper, or make your own (X,Y) graph.
Once you have the graph drawn and points plotted, connect them.. the answer will be obvious once you see the figure..

if you draw a quadrant and plot all of the points you should be able to figure out if it is a right triangle, acute or an obtuse but i don't know how you want to identify it
