I was only planning on using my cell phone and did not intend to sign up for a land based phone. I just had it installed the other day and am considering cancelling and going with the local cable company. Thank you for any help!

You do not need a phone connection to operate the DVR, even though DirecTV insists you do. You do need a phone connection to perform initial setup, but after that you can do without it. (People have taken the unit to a friend's house with a phone to do the initial setup and then brought it back in working condition.) I have operated my DirecTV HD DVR for almost two years without a phone connection. The biggest disadvantage is that you get annoying reminders and messages asking you to make the daily call. The phone connection is used for only two things: on-screen ordering of pay-per-view (you can still order over the internet or over voice line using your cell-phone), and software upgrades. There haven't been any software upgrades for some time, and some question whether there will be any more. (I assume you have the HR10-250 (TiVo) unt.)

Take a deep breath and make constructive you breath! HDMI cables paintings in basic terms advantageous with a Directv extreme def DVR and you do no longer might desire to apply the different cable. What make and kind television do you have? on your breathless rationalization, you by no skill certainly defined in any respect what became into incorrect or in case you replaced inputs on the television.
