Comparisons with the Roman or British Empire would be relevant. I have deliberately not refered to an 'American Empire'. Have a pop at George Bush if it makes you feel better.

If the dummycrats manage to get control of the government it will not be long. They are taking lessons from France on how to surrender the freedom earned by so many over the years. Instead of defending our country they prefer to tear it apart with worthless complaints. The environmentalist have taken away our manufacturing abilities and the politicians have taken away most of our leading industries by permitting other countries to pirate techniques developed in this country.

Hmmm... IMO the downfall of the U.S. will be because of economic collapse. If the Middle East situation escalates it will drive the already truly massive deficit up. As China becomes more powerful economically that'll play a major role - also if the trade deficit between the U.S. and China doesn't get better it'll cause big issues. Latin American countries are nowhere near as subservient to U.S. economic interests as they once were, and may keep developing outwith U.S. control. If the U.S. invades Iran it'll kick *** until it gets to the point of ground forces invading - at which point it will just become another protracted guerilla war, which the U.S. military just can't win (NB Iraq and Vietnam - lost Vietnam, and Iraq has been getting steadily worse). Even if they just attack the infrastructure and leave it at that, it will still create a hell of a lot more Islamic Extremists who may flock to Iraq & Afghanistan.

All this war and deficit may cause countries around the world to be less subservient to the U.S. - and without economic hegemony it will create a vicious cycle as far as all the above is concerned (budget deficit, trade deficits). And of course, the oil is peaking (if not peaked already). The controlling elite are walking a tight rope - let's not forget that one man, Ghandi was one of the single largest factors in bringing down the British Empire.

I'm no political scientist or economist, but what I DO know is that there are a lot of tipping points out there, and that the U.S., despite it's military supremacy is hellofa good at screwing things up (NB 9/11 - how nobody has been done for massive criminal negligence I'll never know, Iraq - getting ever worse, Afghanistan - getting ever worse, Vietnam)...

Man you think the same way i do. I did a report on that subject in school one time and i said that the United States is declining because of the oil and because of the policy's that our government is making. The Roman empire collapsed because they grew to big and could not sustain such a big Empire. The British Empire collapsed also because it got to big as well as its policy's such as taxing the American colony's. The United States is heading down the same path. This is evadable though because all world powers come to an end as history always repeats its self. there is also a rule. there can not be two world powers at the same time. this rule was bent in the latter half of the 20th Century with the rise of the United States and U.S.S.R as superpowers but it was not broken.

Won't happen in your life time Chip. But at the current rate of degradating the Nation with diversity it will implode in the next 40 or 50 years. No Nation has survived in the History of the world that has not stayed together on a common thread. The Melting Pot that was the US until the the Democrat Liberal Left, the ACLU and affirmative action people came about in the last 40 years, is what made this country as strong as is is. The allowing of multi-culturalism (everyone having thier own little pot to piss in) has weakened us dramatically. People just are not patriotic as they once were, being American is a way of life. Be proud of where you came from but to be American assimilation is what our ancestors did, they learned the language and wanted to fit in and be Americans. You cannot have your cake and eat it too in this case.

At least 50 more years. The downfall of US would probably be a poor public education system (a lot of stupid kids out there) and a high national debt.
India and China are contenders, but have serious poverty problems to contend with.
If one counts EU as one union, they could become a rival superpower if they could work together better.
George Bush won't be around forever. America has done its best when faced with difficult situations. Struggle brings out great leaders, but only time will tell.

The US is no longer a superpower in economic terms, only in military terms. Economically, the American current account is in deficit, and Americans are up to their eyeballs in consumer debt, which is why the number of bankruptcies are rising.

The only area where the US continues to be a superpower is in military might, but how often can you use that hammer? Not long...

The US has already ended as a superpower, economically, it is a multilateral world.

Apparently most people feel that George Bush is a better leader than any "salad dressing dude." Well, we do have something none of those other empires had, pop rocks. Our empire will decline when they stop fizzing.
