Based on the context, I am guessing it might be an old German slang term for "pocket"? Just a guess :)

Stevenson's The Wrecker, it's the German's bad accent that makes the sentence sound a bit funny - I've got a German translation here - there it is spelled/pronounced correctly:
"A pig nokket of cold is good." = "A big nugget of gold is good."
