I already have a BS in computer science, but want to pursue a Masters Degree in computer animation or multimedia in a few years. Right now I'm still working and can't go to school right now. While I'm working, I'm thinking of taking a few graphics-based classes at my local community college to pursue a certificate or Associate degree in Graphics Technology.

My GPA wasn't very high upon graduation (a 2.49), but I do plan on studying hard to do well on the GRE and have a great portfolio of my accomplishments. But overall, do you think the certificate might help steer any graduate school to consider me as an ideal candidate for this field? Thanks!

I think it is worth your while to keep up on the latest developments in your field by taking some classes that your schedule allows while preparing to go get your MA. It will demonstrate commitment and when you stay current with the skills/knowledge needed, plus maintain a high GPA, there is no question that you will be rewarded. Best of luck!

i do think it would help, especially if you keep your grades up - it would show a renewed commitment, and the skills learned in the classes can't hurt, either (many programs are esoteric, and the industry, altogether, moves at blinding speed). good luck!
