i agree it was genetics and enviroment.
If you want an explantion:
Genitics determine physical attributes ie. the color of a moth
Enviroment determines the living enviroment of the species, ie. Living in the 1950's in heavy smoggy air from the industrialization era.
natural selection would benefit the darker color moths because they blend in better to the smoggy dark surroundings, helping them survive. At the same time it works against the white moths that would get eaten because they are detected easily by birds. This is a true example btw. its a basic knowledge in any biology textbook.
When the government finally put laws into effect governing the amount of smog industries can put out, the skies cleared up and the population of white moths increased, and vice versa for dark moths.
