im 50 and recently was handed a bank book by my mother, it had one shilling in it, entered in 1957 the result of me in a baby competition. the bank says that it remains at one shilling as they dont pay interest on parts of a pound..........fancy robbing a baby......handsome one at that

Thats a shame... What about going to the local newspaper... they like a good story like that....

I know that when my step sister found some of her mothers bank books they would not pay out at all as they were quite old.

Just think if you have 100 people per week leaving £1.00 in the bank and forgetting about it, they sure do make their money!

Interest accrues in percentages. I would say that the percentage of a shilling earned in interest monthly never amounted to enough to actually attribute to the account. I'm suprised the account wasn't closed as abandoned ages ago. Myself, I would rather steal a lollipop from a baby than a shilling.

Aren't we all? If the bank has a policy against paying interest, then you're not gettting robbed.

There are banks here that would charge you more than that amount just to have that amount in an account.

Seems like the cameras are on the wrong people in the bank...they should install them in their boardrooms!

erm.. i'm not old enough to remember shillings sorry. i'd check their legislation online though and go to see the citizens advise bureau.
