For instance: a person posts an offensive or racsit question, and when they get unfavorable answers, they get angry, as if you are to support them. They speak thier minds, so why should'nt we?

Either they are looking for controversy, or they are blind to what they are doing.

In the first case, they are using the internet as a place to vent, be offensive, and ruffle other people's feathers. They are fishing for strong responses and are getting off on conflict.

In the second case, which I believe may be more common, they are frightfully unaware of the offensiveness of their questions. They may actually believe that they and their views are completely normal, and so when someone points out the harshness - or error - of their views (often in unkind terms) they are shocked. If you've been told that the earth is flat your whole life, then when someone says, "No, you idiot, did you forget to take your meds? It's round," you will be offended.

In either case, if our responses are rational and unjudgemental, and we avoid being callous in our responses, then we can avoid pleasing the first kind of person (absence of conflict), and the second kind of person (not making them feel stupid).

Good luck!
