Mesopatamia is located on what is currently defined as Asia. The borders of Asia being the Suez Canal, the Bosporus Strait (i.e. Istanbul), the Caspian and Black seas, and the Ural mountains. So, even the rough borders of the Mesopatamian region lie within these boundaries.

Mesopatamia means "land between the rivers," referring to the Tigris and Euphrates. It is located in modern day Iraq, which is in Asia, or more specifically, the Middle East. The area was home to Babylon and the famous hanging gardens, and is thought to be the location of the Garden of Eden, at the confluence of the rivers south of where Baghdad is today.

Mesos and potamos is from the Greek meaning between 2 rivers: the Tigris and Euphrates, site of civilizations older than Egyptians'(Sumers, Assyrs, Babylonians). The astronomy and epic literature had a great development during old Babylonia (site of the hanging gardens, one of the ancient wonders of the world). Today is sadly famous as Irak where all the ancient remains were destroyed and stolen during the massive bombings.
