The next England captain should have been Steven Gerrard. He has been liverpool's captain for two seasons and in such a short time. He has led Liverpool to success winning cups and medals. He has also beaten the team led by John Terry (Chelsea). However, I am not directly saying that Steven McClaren has chosen the wrong person but I just recon that Gerrard should have been the man. Anyway, Terry has an advantage too He is at the age of 26 and he can communicate with both the young players and the old players. He has got the perfect age and he is very experienced and confident. Fortunately, Gerrard is still young and he will have a very good chance in becoming the next captain. Rooney could've been a chose if he doesn't have a childish temper. Doing petulants kicks on other players as such. He is often the cause of the of England. Rooney has a chance too but only very slim.

It was always going to be a pick between Terry and Gerrard.
There's not alot to choose between the two in terms of age and talent, but in terms of consistency and character, Terry just stands out a little more.
Despite his immense talent, Gerrard sometimes have the tendency to fade out of the game. He can just disappear like a non-performer until the next time he produces a moment of brilliance.
Gerrard has the unyielding determination and neversaydie attitude like Terry but he just doesn't have that fiery element that is unique to Terry.
There are also some occasions where Gerrard gets himself booked twice and sent off for meaningless fouls.
That's why I think McClaren made a fine choice.

I also think Stevie should have been England`s Captain, but nothing can be done now, John Terry Is the Captain. But can I just add Stevie was born on 30th May 1980 and J.T was born on 7th December 1980, so that should clear up any doubts people have about who is the eldest, not that it makes any difference but I have been reading questions for a while saying Stevie is a lot younger than J.T. THEY WERE BORN IN THE SAME YEAR 1980.

Even though Stevie G is my favorite player, I would say John Terry. As a center half he is able to see the entire field better than a midfielder. Also, there is no guarantee that Gerrard will even be starting all of the games with the talent that England has in Midfield.

RIGHT,I'M WITH YOU 100%!!!!
I think Steven G is a very good leader,he always lead Liverpool to success, like what he did recently (Liverpool defeated Chelsea).John Terry is also a good leader but Steven G is way much better. He is a respectful captain plus very responsible and skillful too but I don't mean that John Terry doesn't have all these qualities, only Steven G is way much better!

Terry's terrific as England's captain - so commanding and vocal. Gerrard's too laidback.
