The green lights come on but nothing happens. No monitor, no bios, nothing. Could this be a bad power supply?

Dell laptops suffer from bad internal power modules (so did mine). most likely that part is gone because it shows all the signs - the green light is on, but nothing else - no monitor, no hard disk, nothing.

in case you have an Inspiron 3700 or 3800 the internal power module is dedicated, hooked on the mainboard via a plug and is located directly under the keyboard. if you have the skills you can replace it yourself.

regarding the above comment about the monitor- instead of getting it repaird, i'm assuming you have a vga monitor you don't use. if you don't, i'm sure a friend would let you borrow one. just plug it into the back of your computer, and see if any thing comes up.

if you're running 2000, i'm guessing your computer if pretty old. it could be any thing from a bad hard drive to bad ram. you're better off buying a $400 dell laptop.

you might have a bad connection in the monitor, take it into a repair shop and have them test your monitor to see if it is working. if the connection is loose it's a safe bet they'll catch it
