For a long time, I tried to remain as "clean" as possible, as that is how I was raised. I avoided looking at pornogaphy (unlike my peers), I don't say sexual jokes, and generally I just avoided it all.
So, I've been innocent for the longest time... until recently, when I've gotten the urge to... well, you know, masturbate.
My questions are: Is this normal? When do people usually begin masturbating (if that's how it's spelled)?
Also, does masturbating result in decreased testosterone ? I'm worried that if I finally give in and start to masturbate, that my testosterone levels will drop, and that my growth or strength will be weakened?
Please, I really need a serious answer to this. Thanks for your help.

To answer your questions: Yes, masturbation is completely normal. Having the urge to do it after being "innocent" for so long is also normal. People often begin masturbating around puberty, but this is a generalization. Obviously, some start earlier or later.
Masturbation will NOT cause testosterone levels to drop. In fact, there is some evidence to suggest that increased sexual activity will actually increase testosterone levels, but this depends on a variety of factors (age, time of day, general health, etc.)
Overall, masturbation is a healthy thing to do. A recent study has suggested that for males, masturbation helps keep the prostate healthy and may actually decrease your risk of prostate cancer!

And finally, masturbation will let you learn what turns you on sexually. Think of it as a worthwhile investment for your future lover. If you know more about your body and learn what feels good to you, the better you'll be able to describe to your future lover how to get you off.
So, learn by doing. :) And do it for your health! Believe me, it's nothing to be ashamed or fearful about. :)
Hope that helped.

I wouldn't worry about your testosterone levels. It took a lot of ballz for you to simply ask this question.
It depends on what you're masterbating with. If you're masterbating your nose, the only side effect would be a red nose.
If you're masterbating your phallus area, I'd only be concerned about it if you do not have a budget for buying boys underwear, because sperm chews thru cotton like moths in heat. Where they cannot find a hole, they make holes.
Don't worry, it's perfectly normal. Why do you think many houses have stucco ceilings?
I'd say you're more abnormal if you didn't take pleasure in it. It doesn't decrease testosterone but it might make you tired after you do it for about an hour or two or make you more absent-minded. There's ways to control that by drinking plenty of fluids and eating fruits like apples or peaches; something with vitamin C.
The typical age for "masterbation discovery" is between 12 (if you're a Nicaraguenso) and 28 (if you're English). As for French, well, they're hopeless: They still haven't invented a word describe the penis. Quite ironic given the fact that their national bird is a c-ock. So as long as you're not 45 or 8 years old, I'd say that you pretty much fall within the normal statistical distribution of masterbaters.
Don't worry if you get up to 7 times in a day, the average masterbater is between 1-5 times. But I've stumbled upon an occasional 6-9 times in a day episode. It depends on what you eat and what has stimulated your sexual thoughts. And: if you're left-handed or right-handed.
Southpaws tend to;well, "paw" more often then righties.

Masturbation is perfectly normal and often a good form of tension release. Some ppl begin to masturbate at puberty. Dont worry, never in my life have I heard of any dangers of masterbation, unless ur doing it 24/7 then make sure you change hands as you might develop a slight bend:-) Happy masturbating!

Theirs nothing wrong with masturbating unless its against your religion or something. But otherwise its your body and you can play with your own body if you want to. Theirs nothing wrong with looking at porno you're only wanting to feel an awesome sensation. It's extremely normal to masturbate either female or male. Males are usually more open about masturbating. But you should never ask a woman if she masturbates not a good idea. Yeah you test will drop but that's why you go to sleep and you recover.

Good man for sticking to what you were raised as. Stick to your guns and what feels right to you. Don't let a forum like this control your choices. Though they won't admit it, there are a lot of people out there that feel guilty, dirty, and cheap after masturbating. It can affect you negatively emotionally, making you a selfish partner. And masturbation is not a cop out for depression. You have to face your problems. Through my study of the scriptures, God's view is that masturbation is wrong, but you won't get struck down for following a natural urge incidental to imperfect flesh. Bottom line is you have to do what's right for you.
By the way, based on your question on shaving and this, it looks like you need a positive male mentor. You should try to find one. Big brother or father figure, you know? I feel for you man.

It is held in many mental health circles that masturbation can relieve depression and lead to a higher sense of self-worth (Hurlbert & Whittaker, 1991). Masturbation can also be particularly useful in relationships where one partner wants more sex than the other — in which case masturbation provides a balancing effect and thus a more harmonious relationship

No, you don't have to worry about decreased testosterone.
Some studies show that masturbation is actually very positive for your health.
Don't worry it it perfectly normal and safe. It's an average part of growing up. There's nothing dirty about exploring your body.
As long as you don't become addicted and don't let it interfere with your normal day, don't worry about it.
Have fun and go ahead, there's nothing wrong with that.

Have a great day,

It's harmless (and fun!) There is no connection to testosterone levels or growth or strength, just as regular two-person sex is not connected to those. I would guess most guys start around puberty.

It is perfectly normal and clean, in fact it's a way to release without finding a partner. There is nothing dirty or disgusting about it and it cannot hurt you. I hate it when people brainwash their kids about those things. I'm suprised you waited this long. Are you mormon by any chance?
