At 6000 miles. You replace the air and fuel filters, spark plugs, distributor cap and optionally rotor, check fluid levels, and should be done in conjunction with an oil change. If you do it yourself, make sure that all the parts that you buy are made for your specific car model, and make sure that the spark gaps have the proper gap.

To start off with If you don't know what goes into a Tune up chance's you don't know how to do a tune up and how to avoid damaging your vehicle.
Another thing your not specific on the Car you have. No mention of year, make, model,or engine size.
IF you do have a modern vehicle chances are you don't have the tools to do a tune up.
until you give better info on your car I cant help you any more.

All you do for a tune up is to replace the spark plugs and wires. Honestly if you don't know how to do it you are better off letting a mechanic do it. You could seriously mess up your engine if you do not know what you are doing.

that would really depend on the car. older cars a tune up should be done at around 30k. cars of the mid 1990's at around 60k depending on make and model. 2000 and up cars between 60 and 100k for a ignition tune up.
example. My 1985 BMW and 1991 Suburban every 30k it gets a tune up
My 1997 Subaru every 60k it gets a tuneup. My 2001 Mercedes C320 gets a tuneup at 100k.
Tuneups include different items again depending on vehicle type.
If the vehicle is factory equipped with Platinum tipped spark plugs they normally get replaced @ 60k, if they are double tipped Platinum plugs then @ 100k, again depending on vehicle make/model. If they are normal copper core plugs, then @ 30k is the normal replacement interval
What does a tuneup consist of again depends on make and model vehicle.
if you email me directly and tell me what year make and model car you have I can give you a complet answer.
