I don't believe the PS2 has a wireless modem so yes you will need network cables from your router to your PS2.
(I have checked Sony's website but there is no reference if the new slim PS2's are wireless or not, and I have the older model PS2 with an add-on modem)

No you will not-but you will need any required PS2 devices that Sony may or may not require. The Linksys wireless gaming router should take care of the fact that you don't need the cable.
