If McCain runs as an independent or as a Libertarian, he'll attract massive support from both liberals and conservatives, and no other Democrat or Republican will come close.
If he runs as a Republican, then the Democrats will have to put someone up to run against him, which will require going to the far end of their political perspective. I don't know who has declared yet, since I don't follow Democratic politics, but I don't think they have anyone as strong as McCain.
But only if McCain distances himself from Bush and the current Republican party.

Hillary Clinton will be the next president. The interesting thing is that she is a strong supporter of Bush in Iraq.
Hillary does "stand by her man", and "her man is George W. Bush."
