It depends on the car. 100,000 is nothing for a Toyota or a Honda-I gave away my little 87 Toyota Corolla at 335,000 miles. 100,000 on a Fiat is miraculous. Do yourself a favor and get a Honda or a Toyota. You will thank me.

Most cars from the mid "80's" are all very capable of going well past the 100k mark.. However, as much as I hate to say it, the Japanese cars do have a better record of accumulating many miles. I had an 86 Mazda B2000 for 17 yrs and put 368k on it with very little parts replacement and am now on my thhird Mazda which is a 2000 and ready to roll over 100k and am looking for it to serve me for many more yrs. Cars that have 140 to 160k on them are still not considered high milers. Not when you figure that back in the 70's and 80's 65k was considered high mile.

Depends upon how the company that owned them took care of them. I've seen companies have 2004 Ford's for sale, drive like new with 150k on the odometer... I've also seen cars under 100k that fleets beat the crap out of and I wouldn't buy it because of it.

Police cars, I usually stay away from them cause the odometer says 100k but the engine may say 200k miles of wear... 1 hour of idling is roughly 30 miles of wear and tear.... But I find state police care for the cars 100% better and a 100k are a great value compared to say a municipality or county where they tried out their best bo and Luke duke moves on the local hill...

I don't care who it's made by.. If it ain't maintained, it ain't gonna last sorry.. If it was maintained like the first one in my example, I've seen those fleet cars give many more years and miles of service on them.

If it's American, run away.

Otherwise, your chances of getting a decent car are much better.
