Id rather have my dash lights as bright as possible. why would you want them dim at night? that makes no sense? if its dark and you are looking at something illuminated, wouldnt you want it as bright as you can have it?

No, if they are at full brightness it will destroy your night vision. This will make it much harder to see hazards on the road at night time.

Actually you should dim them until you can just read them without straining your eyes.

there should be a control to brighten/darken the dash illumination. in my car it's a little wheel with notches in it and shows dashes in a line going from thin (dark) to thick (bright). look around or look up your car online and see if there's a manual for it.
