I've recently started shaving, but I have a few questions. First off, does it matter whether you use a manual razor or an electric razor? Will they affect my beard's growth differently?
Also, do you think it is better just to let my beard grow and shave only once in a while, or should I shave it very often (i.e. every day)?

Thanks for your help and input.

First of all, I hate electric razors. I own one only because it is quick and easy for those mornings when I oversleep. I find that a manual razor such as the Gillette Fusion works really well. The more blades the closer the shave. The difference depends a lot on what shaving cream/gel you use, and how sensitive your skin is. How often you shave is up to how you like to look. I like to be clean shaven all the time, so I even shave twice a day sometimes. It really doesn't affect how fast your beard grows, even though it may seem like it does. That just has to do with how fast your face matures.

I know I'm not a guy, but I like this question :) You can get a closer shave with an electric razor, and not the razor, but shaving more often will affect your beards growth. The more often you shave, over time, the thicker and faster it will grow back. Every time you shave you are essentially slicing the hair in half, so it grows back in at the thickness of the half under your skin. Only shave when you need to.

An electric saves time, and is less likely to nick the skin. A blade will get closer. Read up on the correct approach for shaving with a blade - you need to learn how your hair grows and shave in the right direction.

Frequent or less frequent shaving does not affect the speed of hair growth or the thickness - these are old wives' tales. The hair you can see is dead (which is why there is no pain in cutting hair) so the folicle which produces the hair cannot possibly respond to the frequency with which you shave.

If you're just started shaving recently then there's no need for daily shaving. Your frequency will depend on how comfortable you are, and how many comments your buddies give you. If you shave every 2nd or 3rd day that should work out fine.

Also there's no need to go to the expense of an electric shaver at this point. Wait a couple years.

As far as the impact they have on your face, science would tell you none. However, some individuals still insist that the more you shave the thicker it gets. There's no controversy over manual vs electric. As for myself, I tend to believe science.

I hate facial hair so I'd say shave it and yeah I think a metal razor gets things better I would shave every or every other day.

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.

Razor beats electric shavers for closeness and less irritation. Electrics are useful in a pinch, though.
