Totally. If we didn't fight, or didn't find those things worth fighting for, then we would never attain them. We wouldn't attain that level of happiness, achievment, and pride that may seem small to others, but could make the world go round for the person who got it. If you don't fight, then it will walk right by you and let you wallow in your despair.

I think there are two points that need to be considered: first, a response to this question is heavily colored by world outlook. I think from a western philosophical perspective, the answer is probably "yes," but for, say, a Buddhist, the question has no meaning; Buddhism rejects the idea that things in 'this world' should be valued, and even the objective existence of 'this world' (or our perceptual notion of reality, anyway).
Second is that from a conventional perspective, that quote is sort of an axiomatic description of human behavior, but written backwards. I think it's true of nearly all people that if they really value something or find it worthwhile, they WILL fight to defend it - because of the human tendency to defend things it values (survival instincts, parental instincts, and so on), one can deduce from an individual's behavior where their priorities are.
If someone claims to find something valuable or worthwhile but doesn't act in its defense when it is in peril, then the value they place in that thing is pretty trivial, if it exists at all.
The quote, as it stands, is meaningless. It might be better if rephrased:
"The things that you fight for are things you find worthwhile."

Some worthwhile things (friends, family, good health) rarely, if ever, require fighting for.
Others (freedom, love, justice) might.
So, I can't go along with your blanket statement. There could be occasions when something I find worthwhile isn't worth fighting (and/or killing/being killed) for.
I think cable TV is worthwhile, but I'm not going to fight and/or kill to keep it.

It depends what and on whom you’re fighting. If it is for your sanity and a person you love then yes by all means defend and even give your life up for them. If it is for this mornings cup of coffee and its your co worker then NO.
If it for your eternal life, then yes.
If it is for believeing in Jesus and then to denigh him for your life because you were threaten to have it taken away from you for being a christian, then NO.
(Eph 6:12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
(Col 1:16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Yes.
What is life? It's preparation, for what, we will know soon. So you should stick to things you enjoy - whatever they may be - and no matter what happens, stick to it. If that means fighting for it, then so be it.
