I think it's not accomplishing any goals important to America, and is largely counter-productive as far as helping Iraq.

Let's ignore entirely why we went over to Iraq in the first place. It's irrelevant to the current discus ion, which is what we do from here.

The US is spending tens of billions of dollars and sacrificing thousands of American soldiers' lives for the sole purpose of babysitting the country during what is effectively a civil/sectarian war. The vast majority of Iraqis, counting everyone on both sides of the civil conflict, don't want us there. And all evidence shows that the longer we stay there, the more the sectarian violence escalates.

So, we're not doing anything that benefits us, and just as likely to be harming as helping the Iraqi efforts at peace by staying.

Finally, look at it from a cost-benefit perspective. How much money (tens of millions) and how many lives (dozens) did it cost for the US to invade Iraq and topple Saddam's government . How much money (tens of billions) and how many lives (thousands) has it cost for the US to remain in Iraq and try to force them to set up a new government. Which, by the way, is nowhere close to being ready to take over their country.

What we should do pull out and allow Iraq to set up whatever government they want. If we don't like the results, we go in, topple it, and tell them to try again. We could have done that 10 times and still spent only 1% of the money and lost 1% of the lives that we have so far under the current plan.

So, regardless of the goals, the means we're using to accomplish them are highly wasteful of both resources and American lives. And from any perspective, stupid means are not a good way to achieve any goals.

Obviously it is bad it is destroying a country that perhaps was run bad but to ruin so many lives here and abroad is a BIG mistake. The reason seems to be get control of the oil reserves in Iraq. Are they better off today then they were? It has turned so many of our previous countries that respected us turned against us. We were lied to at the beginning and still being lied. We have no right to force our government on another.

Bush said today we'd be there as long as he was president or some such. He also said people who disagree with him on the Iraq war are *not* unpatriotic. Listen up Y! Answers, Politics topic Answerers. Not unpatriotic to disagree with Bush, per Bush himself!

As for leaving, I think it doesn't make any difference whether we leave now or in 6 months or a year. The government, will fall and the strongest Shiite militia will take over.

Personally, I think the US should have done it earlier, back in 1991.
Instead, the UN only allowed us to liberate Kuwait, and develop no fly zones.
As well, we had the right to worry about weapons in the country, being, most of the weapons were ones we sent, when Iraq and Iran were fighting each other.
And what everyone forgets, is while america's over trying to fix things, Saddam was busy torturing everyone who didn't praise his stupid image....and even with him in power, he couldn't keep the lights on.
Which would you choose, americans who are risking their lives, trying to weed out insurgents, or a madman, who might drag you out into the middle of the night, rape you, and put a bullet in your head?
Not much of a choice, if you ask me.
As for a second choice...I'd go for Iran, or North Korea....both are desperate countries, where people are suffering, while their leaders, deny building nukes...but clearly are doing so.

Absolutely necessary--
Iraq has been freed from Saddam who was a terrible dictator!
Freedom takes time and it has a price for all involved--including enduring the ignorant criticism from spoiled people like you, who cannot imagine what it might be like to live in such fear.
Go ask the Iraqi woman and children and you will certainly see a different picture.

The same way I feel about the other coalition countries over in Iraq......!! We're globalized in case you haven't noticed, and it's not just the USA that's dealing out cards over there. Current events aren't just there because of entertainment...read up on your history and you'll have a better understanding of whats going down in the world !

I think that they should get out of there and let them blow each other up...they are going to continue to do it anyway. They are barbaric...and they hate americans..."But I do believe they got the wrong guy"...Sadam was only a threat to Bagdad and his people..but they loved him over there..they love to be told what to do...and the women love to be slaves to there men. "Dont even tell me they don't because I am married to someone who's whole family is from over there...and "He is the most decent person I know" but his family should all be sent back for what they really believe..and they Dare to call themselves "American Citizens"...it makes me sick!!! They are very stubborn and proud people and they think there S**T does not stink...but there farts give them away!

We are their now so I guess we have to see it through. I do not appreciate the total lie campaign we were treated to by Bush, Cheney , Rumsfeld and the others to get us their. I hope the soldiers are still not having the equipment problems they were having early on.

Im not against Bush but here is what I think: I hate him. My uncle went over for a year and a half, my two cousins worked in the trade center, they both lived, i had an uncle who I never met who died in the world trade center attack. He was a fireman.
