I love swimming. I have been performing this sport for most of my life.
When I was a younger man, I was involved in competitive triathlons and swimming was my strongest event.
Now that I can not compete anymore, swimming has been my single devotion.
I swim laps (one mile) every day, seven days a week, all year round.
In my opinion, there is only one stroke...The crawl(freestyle)
I say this because in the swim event in the triathlons, the swimmers who tired, switched to other strokes to rest. To me, that was proof enough that other strokes were too easy and too slow.....so why incorporate them?
As a cardiovascular sport, fewer sports come close to the benefits of swimming. Those that do, stress the body in ways that can be harmful. What comes to mind is running and cross country skiing.
The "posers" you refer to are in every sport. But the truth is: I don't even notice them. When you swim laps as I do for that distance, the head is under water more than above it.

Oh yeah, I love to swim! I'm not too familiar with any strokes though, I just make something up. I call it the Ti-stroke. I try to do 2 km (1,25 mi) three times a week.
I haven't noticed those "posers", but I'll look out for them.

Yay Swimming!!!!!!!! (except backstroke, I cannot do that one straight)
And my swim practice is either really early in the morning or at my high school pool, so I don't see people who just get in the pool just to show off their bikinis (Though that wouldn't be such a bad thing 8P.)
Besides, when you have a black and gold checkered team speedo, those people stare at you.

I love swimming. Backstroke and Freestyle are my best. Marie and I are competitive swimmers in the Master's. We swim 4 nights a week and usually Saturdays. Our Masters events are additional swimming nights and weekends. We sometimes think we have "Gills"
