I'm interested in purchasing the PlayStation 2, and I was wondering if the new, redesigned version of the PS2 has a Firewire (i.Link, IEEE1394) connection and USB ports. How many pins is the Firewire connection? 4-pin, 6-pin or 9-pin? The USBs, are they 2.0 -- average computer USB ports? Has anyone tried hooking up their PS2 to their computers? Thanks.

I've had a PS2 (slim) for a year now, used it a lot and have had no problems. It sits on a carpet and does get warm. The PS2 has the network (phone) and infrared (for remote DVD) built in.

I'm thinking they dropped the firewire on the Playstation 2 and the PS2 doesn't have one either. It has two USB connectors, but I don't know if they're 2.0 or not.

I have a Eye Toy for the PS2 and I have connected it to the computer's USB 2.0 port, and it works fine as a web cam with the right driver installed, both the picture and sound work good.

I've never tried hooking the PS2 and computer together, why would you do that? I remember something about printing pictures from Grand Tourismo to a printer...

I'm afraid i can't help you with the IEEE and firewire questions, but i know you can hook the original design to the computer. You should really think twice about getting the new design version. The newer design is slimmer, but it has no internal fan; so the system runs the risk of overheating after 45 minutes. I don't have one myself, but i thought about getting one when my original one broke and every reviewer on Amazon.com, even those that gave it positive reviews, said the same thing: it gets really hot after 45 minutes of continous play and it can overheat. Stick with the original design.
