I ran this by Donald "Duck" Dunn, my bassist. He has long, quick fingers and says this makes his playing easier, but it never made it better. He says, and I wholeheartedly agree, that it is the heart that matters. You have to feel the music, and be passionate about your instrument. The bass, according to Donald and many other greats I have jammed with, is the heartbeat of the band. If you feel it with all of your heart and all of your soul; you will be great as well, no matter your physical stature.

I am 5'8 and play the bass quite well. One of the best bassists I have ever known was like 5'5. I would say that if you have very small hands you might want to try and find a 3/4 sized bass but otherwise you should be just fine with a full sized instrument.

otherwise, you'll end up looking like a kicker on a superbowl team!
