Well, from a Mormon (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) point of view I believe that several groups of ancient people came to North America. One group was called the Jaredites, and we believe they sailed over in eight barges which were "tight like a dish" with an opening that opened up for air as needed. We believe that this occurred just after God confounded the languages of the earth when the Tower of Babel was built, and it was also after the time of Noah since there is a reference to how the barges were built in comparison to Noah's ark. You can read more about this account in the Book of Mormon in the book of Ether. My favorite part is when the Jaredites' prophet, Mahonri Moriancumr, asked for help in obtaining a light source for the dark boats before the families departed on their voyage, and he was allowed to see the finger of the Lord Jesus Christ, who touched 16 clear stones and caused them to shine as an independent source of light. We are not opposed to other ways that ancient inhabitants came to North America. There is a big mixture of DNA all over. I am looking for some books right now by Hugh Nibley which talk more about the Jaredites and other people who came to North America. Have a happy day.

Actually, it was not ice, but land that has since, due to tectonic activity, disappeared. It is referred to as the Bering land bridge or something similar. And, the debate is still open as to which non native explorers arrived in North America first: the Chinese, the Norse or that Columbus dude.
