I've seen pictures of old Japanese Yakuza types who are pushing 80 and have tattoos that are almost as sharp as if they were brand new. I'm wondering, is it that they cover them up all the time, or is it something to do with the type of ink? I want to keep my ink looking as good as possible, and ensure that future tattoos won't fade as much as possible.

it all depends on the type of ink used and making sure to cover your tattoo(s) in sunscreen ive you're gonna be in the sun AT ALL. Use SPF 50 sunscreen. Also make sure that 1-2 times a day you apply a moisturizing lotion to the tattoo(s). I know of a really super Japanese ink (but as far as i know only come in Black Ink and Grey Wash) called Kuro Sumi. This is the best black tattoo ink i have ever used!!!

I heard it is the technique of the tattoo application as well as the type of ink. The technique is called irezumi. They actually use a hammer and chisel like thing to put the ink on and I heard it is really painful and takes a long time.

My Japanese friend said it's due to the fact that the oriental culture takes care of themselves eating a lot of seafood, and drinking lots of water. This is good for the skin,
