The reason I ask is this...I changed from the Ortho Evra patch to Nortrel BC pills. This has been my first full month on the pill. (I started taking it right after my period 7/23/06) I have been spotting on and off all month and then last week when I was supposed to start my period, it didn't come! I had light spotting, nothing like I had the couple of weeks before. My fiance and I did use protection the first 7 days after I switched from the patch to the pill and then we stopped. I've been to the doctor for dizziness and they did a pregnancy test on Tuesday 8/15 and I took another one on 8/20..both came back negative. Am I freaking out for no reason? I've been on other forms of BC before and bever missed a period. The only time I ever has was when I was pregnant with my son. Is it my body adjusting to the hormones in the pill? That's what the doctor says. I'm not afraid to be pregnant again. I just want to make sure that I don't do anything to harm the baby if I am. Any suggestions?

The estrogen content of some birth control pills can cause a cessation in menstuation. Different individuals also need varying amounts of time for their hormones to adjust to the levels of synthetic hormones contained in the birth control pills. It is best to ask your doctor whether you should switch pills, give the current pill you are taking more time, and most importantly, whether there is any chance that you might be pregnant in spite of the negative tests.

As a general rule, it is best to use secondary protection for a full month before solely relying on any birth control pill.
