You have to simplify like terms first:

6x+12x-8=6x+2

Then get the x on one side & number on the other:

12x=10

You divide both sides by 12 and get x:

x=10/12 or (5/6)

6x+4(3x-2)=6x+2
6x+4(-6x)=6x+2
6x-24x=6x+2
-18x=6x+2
-6x= -6x
-24x=2
divide both sides by -24 to get the X by itself
x=-12
