Definitely Ray Charles. Ray , Jake & I became good friends on the set of The Blues Brothers movie. We respected his incredible talent, but it was his ability to show the love to all the people around him that left the greatest impression. The man is a legend, but you would never have known it from his actions. Very humble. Also cooked great soul food.

REM has been my favorite band since I was ten years old. I'm not sure why, maybe hearing their music was the first time I really thought about how inspiring music can be. I've written poetry from ideas I got listening to them, and I respect them as artists and people. I finally got to see them in concert in 1999 and had a blast!

Ani Difranco because she is no hold bars....she tells it how it is, she is empowering and raw. She has been a favorite since 1991.
My other favorite is Neil Young. He is honest, true and real. He makes my soul smile and sing. I have been listening to Neil since I was a babe.
