Tetanus - can be fatal. if comes from the a cut from a contaminated piece of dirty metal. It causes clenching of the jaw. The DPT shot (T is for tetanus) you got as a baby will prevent it but needs to be renewed every 5 or 10 years.
If you had it you would quickly be sick enough that you would realize that. Be glad that you don't and avoid stepping on rusty nails or touching sharp pieces of old tin cans.
The word lockjaw is also sometimes used to describe a problem with the jaw's joints - that is a painful problem but not life- threatening that has adopted the same LOCKJAW name.

I had it once from an overdose of medicine called compazine. I went to the ER and was given Benedryl by IV and it went away.

stiffness of the jaw is associated with talking a lot. impact is it makes it hard to eat. Solution is to buy a straw.
