The Yankees crushed their biggest rivals in a FIVE game sweep AT Fenway Park. They won in every possible way, they bashed the Sawx crappy pitching in the first couple games. Then had a come from behind win against the Boston's closer and won a thrilling extra inning affair, finished with who else, but Mariano on the mound. And then they showed off their superior bullpen (and their new additions) in the final game and won by a single run. Mike Myers struck out Big Papi on three pitches and Farnsworth took care of the sox in the ninth before Ortiz could get up to try to do some clutch hitting, unlike Derek Jeter who showed what clutch really is. Great weekend. And to the guy who talked about "revenge" Johnny Damon was handing out some revenge of his own this weekend.

Can the Yankees win the division? Based on what the Yankees have shown this season, the answer has to be 50/50. Can the Red Sox come back and win the division? From what they have shown this season... it is even less likely. So the Yankees, with their $200+ million payroll, will win the division by default. But does anything this season pointed at the Yankees to be in the World Series? That answer has to be no.

The Yankees beat the Red Sox 5 straight.

It's time to pack up, and move to the hills of Kentucky

It's laughable that Bosox fans try to use Varitek's absence to explain the 5-game sweep. Last time I looked, Varitek was behind the plate, not on the mound. You can call a good game as a catcher, but you can't control the way the pitch is thrown.

And as for the offensive side of things, Javy Lopez is a huge upgrade. Varitek is a 34-year-old on the downside of his career, and was hitting a measly .243 at the time of his injury.

The Yankees were the better team. That's why they got the sweep.

I love it. I just hope is only the beginnning for the Yankees and the end for the Red Sox.

The better team won, but to win all 5 games is an amazing task. I can't see the Sox making the playoffs this year with the pitching staff they have right now. They are really missing Jason Varitek right now!!

I'm a Yankee fan...always have been a Yankee fan (over 4 decades) and always will be a Yankee fan. Had someone asked me last Thursday night if we would sweep the series, I would have said it was unlikely. Three of 5 would be good. I am shocked, surprised, pleased, and astounded! The clutch Yankees of old. Let's keep it going! SUBWAY SERIES! (with apologies to the rest of the country & Canada)

I think the Red Sox are done for this season. There's really nothing that can save them now.

I think that we just witnessed the n most remarkable seventy five hours in baseball history. Long after the winner of the 2006 World Series is forgotten ,this series between will be remembered.

Sox aren't the same without Varitek.... Yankees are getting healthy and playing well. The better team won the series.
