My best friend keeps tellin me that i need to stop listening to that "white people" music. I'd ask if she heard that All-american rejects song and she said that dont think our friendship is gonna work b/c we dont have the same intrest??

I love rock music and I'm black! I listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aly & AJ and Avril Lavine! But I LOVE Hip-Hop too and it ticks me off when someone tell me that I'm trying to act white just because I listen to rock or pop songs! my dad listens to a lot of rock like Led Zeppelin but he also listens to old school rap! His favoite rap group in the world is Run DMC because they are like rock and hip hop at the same time! I don't just listen to one particular kind of music! I love rap, r&b, rock, and pop songs! Don't listen to her! People sometimes automatically think just because you are black that you listen to a lot of rap songs! Well that's a stereotype against us and they are going to keep putting stereotypes on us for no reason just because they like to talk! Listen too what you like and don't be ashamed of! It's not about pleasing someone, it's about pleasing you to what you like! Love Ya Lots!

i'm no longer black, yet i'm actual happy which you're no longer followin the bandwagon and listening to terrible music including rap and hiphop. *Cheers for you!!* with a bit of luck you may set an occasion to the the remainder of the African American community and all people else interior the international! Haha =] that befell to me too! I fairly have continually liked rock, yet i enjoyed hip hop and crap like that. properly Ihave replaced via fact that final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days! you're suited! I have been through the same experience and I have NEVER lost a friend just because I am black and happen to listen to rock music. As a matter of fact, most of my friends and I eventually listened to all of the same music, rock, rap or otherwise.
My estimate is that your friend is being dramatic; she will remain your friend, whether she believes it or not. You don't need to "drop her like a tonne of bricks" if you two are true friends.
Besides, rock music IS black music...

Blacks started Rock 'N' Roll with Fats Domino being the number 1 rocker in sales during the '50s and Micheal Jackson being the number one sales in the '80s. Tell her that 80% of those that buy rap and R&B music are white!

I would have you listen to "black people" music: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Otis Redding, Buddy Guy.... to name a few. These men took the pain of their times and made great music with it. Your history is rich in their lyrics. Give it a try.

When rock and roll came out, it was considered 'black music'. Elvis and Bill Haley were two of the first white musicians to play 'black music'. When Buddy Holly first came out, people assumed from his sound that he was black.
Black artists have made tremendous contributions to rock music, from its basis in american blues, to the contributions of musicians like jimmy hendrix.
So tell her its black music, and its not your fault that white people keep trying to steal it.

your friend is an idiot... a lot of the start of rock and roll was from black people and tons of rock stars have blues influence... if your friend is going to give you grief and base your friendship on some music she isn't that good of a friend to begin with
