the video was about beaches that have not been taken over by corporations, so you could stay for like 2 dollars a night and camp on the beach. some of the beach huts were 5 dollars a night. i was wanting to know if anyone has stayed at one of these.

i figure that if you're coming from america, the dollar is pretty good in your favor, and you don't need to stay on the beach. it'd be more worth your while to stay in a hotel where there's a shower, a secure place to put your stuff, and a soft bed.

there's not the best kind of people wandering around the beaches at night.

The area of Rio de Janeiro is difficult to find cheap accommodation but if you are willing to stay in a hostel 3 or 4 blocks away from the beach in a room with about 5 other travelers it can be done for about 12 dollars with breakfast included.

When are you planning to travel ? Normally during the Summer season (Dec-March) is not so cheap to visit any beach... But in low or middle season (April-June and August-November) you can find very good prices... You can visit any beach in the Northwest or South at less than USD 100/day (including hotel and meals).
