India is a dirt poor country still fighting some horrible traditions. Yes, there are parts that are rich and prosperous, but huge parts that are severely impoverished. While the country is making strides, it will be a long time until it catches the United States in overall lifestyle, freedom or education. I do think they will get there before China though.

First of you shouldnt generalize like that not everyone has the picture you just described about India,i see India as a beautiful colourful country with gentle people , many vegetarian, i think a large percent, a lovely culture, I find Indian people very easy to talk to and very updated , as far as economy goes i don't really know that much, I know it is or use to be a very heavily populated country that might have an effect on employement, I never heard people remarking about eating rats or monkey brains ,dont judge people by a few who are narrow minded but look around lots of nice people willing to exchange views .

You're right when you say some Indian citizens are very wealthy and there are million-dollar corporations doing very well globally which originates from India.

But India's wealth is not evenly distributed. b4 you hit me, I agree nowhere in the world can you get a 100% even distribution of wealth. But places like India and Indonesia the situation is really bad. The rich are filthy rich but very few while the rest of the people are unfortunately very poor.

India is very popular amongst tourists, so people who've visited your country and the documentaries don't lie.

Ok. I have a friend that grew up in India(he is now 30 and moved to the U.S. 2 years ago), and he says he was horribly poor. So, don't blame it on the ignorance of Americans. Some of us just believe what we have been told. I really do not believe him to be a liar either, as he sends home money each pay day to his mum and dad to ease their financial woes.

well i for one have travelled all over india, and india is no comparison to the west.. agreed you have shopping arcades,,[ i am from england] but not like we have, and agreed you have very rich people in india, but , i am sorry but the poor people far out number the affluent, you only have to go through the streets of mumbai, early morning to see how many homeless are living on the pavements, how can you be proud of this?, you indians ignore the poor , they are of lower class, but to be fair, how can you drag yourselves up from this poverty, i know india has proud people,, i am married to an indian,, but there is 1 billion persons that india has to look to,, impossible, can't be done, if and when you come to europe you will see the difference,,even the poor are rich compared to majority of indians, and i am not boasting,, it is the tax system that is working to pay for them. no one goes without food or shelter, even when unemployed, why do you think most european third world countries like to come to uk and work. minimum wage of £5 plus per hour, by law, all taxed of course.cigarettes and alcohol taxed to the hilt. everything is taxed, but that is the economy, rich pay for the poor,, the poor wear shoes. clothes, drink ,smoke, eat, all at the tax payers cost, weekly payouts no child goes hungry, no your country is not poor just too over populated for its own good

the thing that differs in india than the US is the inability for members to rise up out of lower social statuses. yes, there are malls and clubs and nice restaraunts, but you don't see servants or the lower class individuals frequenting those places. there are wealthy beautiful places in India, but the majority of the land per square meter is inhabited by impoverished people. in the united states a person can go from rags to riches......it's not very likely, but it is possible and it does happen. because of the cast system In india, people from a particular social/economic level isn't given the opportunity to gain wealth and social status. here, if i wanted to marry a woman who came from a poor family, i could do that and no one would really care...in india, marrying outside of your cast is taboo.
