If we believe in evolution, then why are scientists trying so hard to clone animals, and even talking about cloning people?
Why not let the fit survive, and let evolution run its course?

cloning will allow us to have spare organs and such for those that need them, among other advantages. cloning and evolution are not mutually exclusive.
and whoever said evolution has stopped is also wrong, it is still happening all around us, it just takes a while. it took 4.5 billion years to get where we are today.

Nice non sequiteur man.

Studies related to cloning clarify the process of cellular development which might be applicable across a wide variety of medical disciplines. Cloning offers the possibility of rapidly bringing new foods and medicines to market which would other wise require much longer periods to become practical.

It's a pity that a minority of rabid fundamentalists has effectively prevented the teaching of evolution in schools. People wind up only getting the creationist caricature presented to them in any detail which results in ignorant assumptions.

Fitness is measured only by reproductive success from an evolutionary perspective. The greater the internal diversity a species has the greater the odds are of it surviving ecological changes. Selective pressure is generally reduces internal diversity in large long lived slow reproducing species.

Using natural history as a guide, I'd observe that any creature which must grow larger than a rabbit inside a short period is doomed to extinction. The fact that humans fit that criterion is a fine argument for getting off the natural evolutionary conveyor belt and taking our evolution into our own hands to avoid, if possible, our own inevitable demise.

Evolution is a fact. All living creatures evolve over time. It is an obvious result of the genetic system that dictates who and what we are. This is not a belief system.
When you say "let the fit survive," who are you referring to? Do you know who the fit are? Do you assume that we should quit because genetics will take care of who shall survive? What if I want to survive and I want my children to survive and to h*ll with the rest of you? Should I be allowed to just kill you all off because I think my genes are more worthy than yours? What kind of freakish world do you live in?
Should we stop trying to improve our lives because either 1)This life is just temporary and were going to heaven anyway, or 2)Why do anything because natural selection will take care of all our problems? Are you out of your mind?
Some scientists are studying genetics and the mechanisms that cause the genetic code to create an entire living being. Some of these scientists do it merely out of curiosity. Some do it because they are trying to cure humanities ills. Either way they will continue. Are suggesting they should stop because natural selection dictates that the weak will die anyway?
You need to think harder.

Cloning is about the mastery of genetics, of DNA, and someday, scientists hope, life.

Evolution will run its course in millions.

And it seems societies in general have decided that it is better to help all survive, and not just the ones that nature would have encouraged to survive.

evolution takes time and works as a reactionary mechanism.

Cloning works to target the survival of individuals by providing new organs and such. That, I think, is more of an active intervention rather than reactionary mechanism.

Just because we believe in evolution does not mean that we cannot make advances in science. Most people believe in disease, correct? Should we just let disease "run its course"? Should we not have contained smallpox? Should we close down all hospitals and let the sick and injured die?

Evolution needs challenges too. Besides whatever we do is also part of an evolution

That's a good point. I also wonder if evolution is true, why has everything stop evolving. Shouldn't there be new creatures by now?

because, sooner or later, natural selection will destroy our human race. so we are trying to stop that.
