A choir has many voices singing in harmony, sopranos, altos,
tenors and bass, all in harmony with each other. Add this to a
good orchestra, with or without an organ and that is the reason.
Also remember that most churches and concert halls are
designed to provide resonance, which generates acoustics
which bounce back to the major source of sound and adds
to the beauty and strength of the original sound source.
This is a very interesting question that you asked and I only
wish there were more of this nature and less junk. All of us
would learn a lot more. Congratulations and good listening.

It is the amount of voices and the singers are usually told to project their voices. It can make even the most modane song sound very large. It isn't like studio singing where the individual voice can be teaked with and changed and usually an indvidual is not projecting their voice, they are singing into a microphone, which does the amplification.

Acoustics in a church will enhance the overall sound of a choir.
I think that the vibrations caused by harmonic singing, resonate in our bodies and they give the music even greater power.
There is just such beauty in choral singing, especially when it's young people singing, such as in a boy's choir.

i think that with all of the voices its like that many people believe in the song and that many people are meaning what they are saying. It usuallu makes for a louder seeming voice of many people. I don't think it has anything to do with churches, but I think that it is deffinatly because it is sooo many more people feeling it than just one singer. i hope that made sense. i didnt really know how to put it into words.

I think it's just the fact that there are more voices singing. And actually, some songs sound worse when you add that many voices. But naturally gospel music lends itself to large group voices, and so of course they sound powerful.

When people sing together, they can harmonize, and the harmonic dissonance if done right can give you chills. Also there is something amazing about everyone singing at the same time; it's a feeling of community and the beauty of human behavior.

Not really. It is mystical in its own right, but what makes it soooo powerful is that there are many voices magnified as one. So it reflects several positive human characteristics such a unity, harmony, cooperation....and it will give you a humbling sense of awe.

why do choirs make songs seem more powerful?
it's suppose to be meant that way because those collective voices intend to deliver a message of goodwill to mankind.
