Well for all of us with a good CD collection, the 80s never have to die :) Yes, I do miss the good time, sex, drugs and rock-n-roll style of 80s metal. I still love listening to Motley Crue, Poison, LA Guns, Steelheart, Sleeze Beez, etc. But I don't hate Nirvana, and I love Alice in Chains and Soundgarden that came out of that era.

Music constantly evolves and what was usually makes its way back again, and even if it doesn't there is no reason we can't crank our 80s metal and f**k those who don't like it :)

I'd rather listen to 80's pop metal than grunge. They have longevity and many are still around recording and touring. Poison, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Tuff, W.A.S.P. and many more.
Who in the 90's is still around? Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains (with a different singer), Green Day, maybe Offspring and a handful of 1 hit wonders like Toad the Wet Sprocket.

I don't think the 80's are coming back, but, people are tired of music with nothing but chords and aggression and are more appreciative of scales and melody. DragonForce, a new band (think Iron Maiden on speed) sell out every show they play in the U.S. and went from small venues to 3000-5000 seaters within a year of touring North America for the 1st time.

Usually 80's metal fans hate 90's grunge bands and visa versa. I am partial to grunge music. No offense but I do not consider songs about women and cars as serious music. The only good thing about 80's metal is that the tunes can be catchy and the videos are typically hilarious. As for the Nirvana comment. They did not make music dull, they livened it up. Music is dull now without bands like Nirvana who were full of passion and concerned about their music and not their band's persons.

Finally someone who listen to the same music as I. I was great metal fun in 80's and 90's but I thought they disappeared from the scene. Poison was one of my favorites and I was constantly arguing with my friends, because they liked thrash or death metal. Actually I think that grunge killed metal. But it's coming back. I saw Whitesnake in concert few weeks ago, and they are as good as ever. Motley Crue is having new album (they look pretty silly now, bu still OK). I got to go to Poison site to check out what happening to them. Don't know if you were listening to Queensryche (they wasn't that much party band) - but they also have new album (back to their roots). They are all lot older now but I hope that as many old metal groups will make new stuff and return to the scene. I want them back, and I am so tired of listening same stuff. like 15-20 years ago.
I hope to see some new bands playing metal.
Green day are OK as band but there is so many English punk bands that are better and it is really hard to hear them. I don't mind punk because even if most punks never learned to play it still sounds so much better then many things appearing to be popular today.
And also I never dig Nirvana, and their depression. Too depressive for my taste anyway.

My preference is Hair Metal. There are just far more better bands and, you're right, the music was a lot more enjoyable to listen to than Grunge.

Don't get me wrong, there are some grunge stuff that is fantastic, but Hair Metal bands will live on forever.

Hair metal forever!! (but, sorry, I dont think the 80s are coming back). Anyway, a few good albums were recorded in 1990 - 1992: flesh and blood by poison, pride by white lion, use your illusion by guns and roses, hey stoopid by alice cooper (does that count? slash played in that album), three sides to every story by extreme, and some more...

maybe the 80s are coming back kind of. i wouldnt really know. but to correct you on something. nirvana is DEFINETELY not emos. if you want to see emo i could give you a list of bands like
underoath
panic at the disco
senses fail

and it goes on and on because thats what everyone likes nowadays even though that music is horrible.

definitely hair metal. It's what I listened to when I was in high school, and I still love it. As far as the 80's coming back, in a way they are. Bands like Buckcherry sound pretty 80's, but I don't know how far it will go.

Grunge was the great movement because it slayed all the long-haired grease-munchkins wearing gay pants and looking in need of a good kicking.

Grunge was about anger and not depression - inlke your girly voiced screaching that just caused ear ache.

Fool, get a haircut and a real job you batty boy.
