No hedgehogs don't hurt to hold. Their spikes aren't always puffed out, but they can at it's slightest irritation. If they feel threatened by you I assume the spikes could deter you from messing with him, but if you handle him alot and he's use to you then you shouldn't have any concerns. They kinda feel similar to holding a guinea pig, but with match sticks all over. Responsive match-sticks. It's cool. They can be pretty friendly little pets. Yes a guinea pig sized enclosure is a good atmosphere for them. Any smaller than 2' though probably would make him kinda irritable. They could be compared to a hampster, but I don't know if a hedgehog would be into the wheel or ball idea. As with any pet, they must be tended to and are a big commitment. Their life depends on you. It can be a rewarding experience if you put the attention needed into "parenting". When picking one, make sure your personalities "click". Me n my dog don't like eachother, hopefully you and your hedgehog have a better relationship. Good luck!

No, they're not painful to hold, but they do NOT make good pets. He/she will quickly outgrow a cage made for a guinea pig. And they stink.
If you like small mammals, you'd be WAY better off to get a guinea pig, or gerbils. Or maybe a cat.

It doesn't hurt if you hold it. It should be all right in a guinea pig cage as long as you let him out a lot.

HedgeHogs aren't painfull to hold, you can cuddle them after they gett to know you.A five by five cage would be best, and make sure it has a top they love to climb and escape.

hedgehogs arent pets...they naturally carry fleas...and will curl up in a ball each time you go near or touch them... so you probably cud get hurt by the spines..get a pet you can have fun with and they can have fun with you...dont cage them ...theyre not meant for cages ...... thats not classed as wildlife....meaning a life in the wild ......where they should be allowed to live it
