I am a nurse and last winter, my 17 yr old daughter removed my stitches. All you need is a suture removal kit. Use the tweezers to pull up on the stitch and clip it under neath. No problem. It does not take a medical professional to do it.
PS: I am a RN in a hospital and it doesnt hurt.
I almost cut my finger off washing a glass that broke with my hand inside of it and had 7 stitches in my little finger.

First of all is your Friend a medical professional. If you had them placed in an ER call them and see if they will charge for removal sometimes it is counted as one visit. It doesn't take much skill to remove stitches but you do need a suture removal kit and you need to be sure that all of the suture comes out by using sterile tweezers after they are cut. It is not painful to remove sutures, the pain placing them is much much worse. After the removal of the sutures you want to use bacitracin (triple antibiotic ointment) sold over the counter in pharmacy. Keep that area clean and dry and after about 2 days you can cleanse with mild soap and water. If your develop redness around the area with pain and draining pus, fevers; then its infected and you will need antibiotics. Good luck

Why is your friend removing them and not someone in the medical profession? Anyway, I've had both, stitches and staples. The staples were worse to have taken out that the stitches, so it shouldn't be too bad. If there is still a lot of scab, then are you sure it is time to have them removed?

You should be nervous.....little to no pain, but infection cocerns yes. Have a MD remove and he/she will also show/tell you how to tend to the rest of the healing process. Or have your friend do it , run the risk of infection, and who knows maybe end up in the hospital with IV antibotics for a few days or weeks. It's remote but it is possable to get a bad enough infection where death is possable.

Relax it shouldnt hurt. The physician that put them in will take them out for free. Use triple antibiotic ointment over the scabs and tight areas. Good luck.

Be ready in a few days to be in the ER for infection. I don't know how many times I have worked on childish people who have their "friend" take out their stitches and then end up in the er for infection. Go to a doc or a er and do it right so you don't have a huge bill for infection.

Your friend is going to remove them??? Nooooooooo! She/he could hurt you bad. It's a very precise thing to do and you need the good scissors and sterilized scissors to do that!. You got to go to a doctor for that. And than, don't worry, it won't hurt. I got some removed. You won't feel a thing.

it dosnt hurt that bad dont worry u'll do fine. the only thing you can do is play with them to loosen them up a bit but depending on where they are this could be difficult. but honestly its not that bad you wont hardly feel it.
