I am told that when I was a baby, I spit up the first feeding for the first several months. This was due to an under developed stomach valve which could now be surgically corrected. There are many reasons why a baby might throw up a lot. I would schedule and appointment with your doctor to have it checked out

Is he crying when he spits up or just spitting up? If he is crying he could have an allergy to the formula or even to your breast milk (if breastfeeding).
I would try switching to a soybased hypoallergenic formula. You should know within the first few feedings if this is the case. You should try this as soon as possible.
If you are breast feeding - try not eating any dairy (including, yogurt, cheese, etc.) and no spicy or acidy foods like mexican or tomatoes, fruits, etc. and see if that changes within the next day or so.
I would continue to try and reach your doctor.
Also - after reading the other answers, check and make sure he is having bowel movements and urination. If not you should definitely take him to the ER. He's too young to wait too long.

1st and foremost, you may want to find a new pediatrician. A new Mom shouldn't have to wait more than a few minutes for an answer. 2nd the baby is probably having a hard time with the kind of formula you are using. try soy incase of an allergy. The brown stuff is probably mucus. I wouldn't worry too much but talk to a DR

I can honestly say that I just went through this with my son, he is four weeks old today. We finally figured out that he could not tolerate that DHA and ARA stuff. We put him on Nestle Good Start supreme (the one without the DHA and ARA) and he is doing wonderful. Still spits up a little but not like he was. Believe me I know what you are going through, I absolutely freaked when my son was doing this.
Hope this helps! My doctor was no help as well, so I know how it feels.

I had this with my DD's and I was told it's because there palets were underdeveloped. It doesn't close up in the throat like it's suppose to because of this, but they do out grow it so don't worry. I was told to put the babies in there car seat for about a half an hour after you feed them, so the baby stays in an upward position for 1/2 hour. I hope this helps you some. Good luck and try not to worry my twins were very bad about this I wondered if there got any milk at all, but once I started putting them in the car seat it got much much better.

You need to talk to a pediatrician as soon as possible because it could be something serious. However, calm down, it does not need to be anything bad. Your baby may have acid reflux. Your pediatrician may prescribe him some medication to decrease the amount of acid in the stomach content. My baby has GERD, and he has been taking Axid since he was three weeks old.

make sure you're not feed him too much...if he is on formula, babies that age usually drink 2 to 4 oz . Feel his tummy, if it is hard, then he might be constipated, so get a gas suppressant, preferably the baby suppositories. If he is spitting up a lot and seems to be losing weight get an appointment quickly.

You need to get him to a doctor now. I don't want to alarm you, but it could be serious, and a doctor will be able to tell you exactly what is wrong. Your doctors are obviously a waste of space, so go to A+E/ ER.
Please don't waste anymore time. This is not normal!!!!
