Holy crap. Those games should be eliminated altogether. Just determine the starters through a few full contact scrimmages. Or at the very least limit the preseason to two games. That is some greedy B.S. by the NFL.

No, and No. Preseason games are just there to make more money than they already make on the regular season. I mean ever one goes crazy because it's the "first game of the season", and it doesn't mean anything, and none of the good players play anyway.

1) Yes there is. The starters don't totally slack off (as many people think) and the guys who want to make the team give it their all. People just don't like it because they don't recognize players that far down the depth chart (ok, I admit, I stop paying close attention once most get the the 4th quarter, except the Chargers, after going to a practice I know practically everyone on the team, unlike my other favorite team the Vikings, who are too distant to keep up with practice squad guys).

any football>any other sport on TV

2) No. I agree that they should be cheaper. I love football, but I'm not going to fork over an arm and a leg for a game that doesn't affect my team's shot at the playoffs.

I don't agree with total elimination of pre-seaon, but perhaps cutbacks (but then add like 2 reg. season, as it's hard enough to wait for football to start again).

Lets see.. for something more boring.. how about watching poker, darts, golf, tennis, or competitve eating on TV.

And while I'd like to see them cancel some preseason games, the purpose isn't about determining who the starters are most of the time. It's about who the depth players are. For every major injury that happens to a star, there is probably a similar story about a guy who made the team because of his efforts in pre-season. One example that comes to mind is James Thrash, who has played for the Redskins and Eagles.. in his rookie year, he was #11 of 12 wide recievers in camp.. then he took two Kickoff returns for TD's in the last two pre-season games and made the team. The rest, as they say, is history.

I'm happy that football season is back. If you don't want to the preseason game, then don't go. If you feel it's a ripoff and a bunch of overpaid guys are just taking your money, stay home and watch the game.

How about the First string just doesn't play? Oh yeah because that is being done FOR THE FANS. Don't give me this ohh they are greedy crap. If they were doing it by choice only then the starters wouldn't really play until the third game. Play them about a half, then play them for the fourth game. They put them in that series or two in the first two games FOR THE FANS.

I enjoy pre season for what it is, a full contact evaluation of players trying to make the cut. Win loss is meaningless. Greed? What do you think built this country? It's all about supply and demand. More power to them. How much have YOU spent on preseason football? My tally is about 5 hours time. Cheap I'd say.

That's why I never want to listen to anybody saying NFL owners are in "financial" trouble. Everything about preseason is over hyped. Too much emphasis on it. We don't get hyped over preseason MLB or NBA. Players & coaches just play to not get hurt.

preseason games are needed, fact. the teams never sell them out. it's only retarded people with more money than they know what to do with that go watch them. coaches need them to evaluate their players to see who will make the 53-man roster by the third preseason game. if nobody showed up to watch the game, they would still be playing. simple as that.

I agree, how come college football can just start playing real games while the NFL wastes a whole month on games that don't mean anything.

Its all about the benjamins...I agree but it will never happen. They are making too much money. Its still a fun time to get out to the stadium regardless of what the reason is. Especially when you live in STEELERS COUNTRY!!
