I have recently gotten into live music through a friend of mine who writes lyrics and who is good friends with a fantastic lead singer for a rock band. What stunned me is the amazing talent out there, all of them desperate to be recorded and maybe sell a few albums, yet the nonsense that gets played on the radio, all these manufactured girl and boy bands, are the ones making the money, yet the honest to goodness hardworking boys and girls out there peddling their butts off to get gigs, don't get a second thought. Personally I think that shoddy shows like Xfactor should be blown out the water to be replaced with Battle of the Bands shows, bringing on genuine bands/artists to get their songs and names out there.
What do you think?

Hooooray...I couldnt agree more, im a drummer and have played in real bands for years.Unfortunatley the media has the money to peddle the rubbish on to the tv and radio and "tell" the public sheep what they like. Most people dont even realise what a real band made from real musicians sounds like live, as they have been "told" whats fashionable by the charts etc, and just buy whats on offer instead of going out and seeking real music (with real instruments and everything).

Sooooooooo agree with you. The Battle of the Bands is a great idea. There was something like that once with fantastic Bands competing. It was wonderful and then the awful awful talent shows came along.

The record companies can control the product from the first song written to the album/single recording and they make a lot more profit that way, as they don't have to pay the band/group as much and they don't have to argue with the way the band is marketed as they are in total control.

Music fans DON'T need such tosh! - we are still out there buying the good stuff. Anyway it's not all doom and gloom, there is a whole wave of new guitar bands cracking it at the moment so ignore the rubbish and leave it to the big brother, soap opera and associated nonsense tv crowd to devour - that's all its fit for.

I agree with all the answers above! No record company in the world (and let's face it there are not many of them left now, they're all just related companies) would have the balls to take on an artist with their own opinion!

It's called corperate money making, theres no real music in the 'music industry' anymore, the days of young bands getting a chance have gone, given way to guaranteed profit making music.

Oh thank God!!!! There are others who haven't been brainwashed!!! I can now sleep at night.

Imagine being a brilliant, talented and original musician, sweating your socks off doing gigs and trying to get heard, whilst there are others who just smile and take off clothes and get recognition instantly...

Insulting isn't it...
